Carbon

From every ton of CO₂e removed, a more livable city grows.

Basic Carbon Training

Foundational carbon and climate knowledge specifically designed for land and landscape developers navigating the modern climate-tech ecosystem.

The Curriculum

Program Overview

The Basic Carbon Training is a structured 5-module program designed to teach carbon management for land and landscape developers. An intermediate level of english and ecosystem knowledge is required.

Delivered through a combination of live online sessions and self-paced materials, the curriculum spans a typical duration of 10 hours. Participants gain a solid grasp of how carbon logic integrates with landscape projects, preparing them for more advanced certification paths. Each Basic Training is tailored to the specific professions while a default curriculum is provided below.

Training Modules (5 × 2 hours)

  • Module 1 – Climate Change (CC) Basics I: Land Sector Foundations
    • Key concepts of climate change, mitigation, adaptation
    • Role of land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) in the CC framework
    • Overview of international climate policy (UNFCCC, Paris Agreement) with a focus on land-based commitments
    • Climate change sectors and their connections
  • Module 2 – Climate Change Basics II: Policy, Risks and Opportunities
    • National and local climate policies relevant to land-based projects
    • Agriculture and LULUCF (AFOLU) emission categories
    • Co-benefits of land based carbon projects (health, biodiversity, social cohesion)
    • Introduction to carbon standards and principles for land-based projects
  • Module 3 – Quantifying Emissions and Removals
    • Basic concepts of emissions, removals and carbon stocks in land systems
    • Activity data, emission factors and baselines for land-based projects
    • Simple calculation examples for emissions and removals
    • Harvested wood products and substitution benefits
    • MRV, additionality, leakage and calculation&reporting principles
  • Module 4 – Quantifying Emissions and Removals II
    • Negative emissions and emission sources in land sector
    • Project types, interventions and monitoring plans
    • General components for certification (concept note, baseline, monitoring plan)
    • Good practices from real-world land-based projects
  • Module 5 – Exercises and Case-Based Learning
    • Guided exercises using simplified datasets from land-based projects
    • Interpreting results and discussing implications for management
    • Q&A and next steps towards advanced training and certification pathways
